Just for fun, I shot a quick comparison of the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 on the D800 against the Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 and the Fujinon 18-55mm f/2.8-4. Below are the three images I took – all shot at f/5.6 1/60th ISO 200 with a Nikon SB900 set at 1/32nd in manual mode. All are jpegs straight [...]
Nikon have announced an 18.5mm f/1.8 lens for the 1-series of cameras. 18.5mm equates to approximately 50mm in 35mm terms, so it makes a great general walk-around and portrait lens for the 1-series. I have no doubt that it is great quality, as all the 1-lenses are for their price range. It’s nice to see [...]

This is not so much of a review as comparison of the Nikon V1 against the review I have already done on the Nikon J1. The way these cameras work and their performance is almost identical, so I’m not going to just do a copy-and-paste of the J1 review, I suggest you go and read [...]
Nikon has released a minor firmware update for the J1 and V1 cameras This appears to be a minor fix for an issue affecting the slow-motion movie mode in which the same frame could be recorded twice. Download the J1 update here and the V1 update here The Nikon 1 range of cameras is available [...]

I know this wouldn’t normally be published on this website aimed at CSCs but the D3200 is a small dSLR with some interesting new features that I thought it worth a mention! The 24Mpx sensor, I assume given Nikon and Sony’s relationship is the same as the one used in the NEX-7, which although I [...]

I have been using my J1 with the kit 10-30mm lens, which in my opinion is one of the best kit lenses to be supplied with any camera, of any variety, ever! I have no complaints about the image quality of the lens at all, but the one thing it isn’t, is exactly compact – [...]

I like shallow depth of field and wide angle lenses, and initially the Nikon 1 system didn’t seem to offer me anything I would be interested in. I tried one in a shop and I realised that is was actually a very nice camera, well built, easy to use, and small. I read the reviews, [...]

I owned a Panasonic G1 when they first came out and loved using the camera, but as I got into shooting wildlife I found it just wasn’t quite up to the job and went all out buying a Nikon D300s and have had a variety of telephoto lenses for it over the years. A little [...]
